So, how old is the Bible?

Much older than you might think. For example, copies of Biblical texts composed during the First Temple Period (960 - 586 BC) are among the most significant findings in the Dead Sea Scrolls collection.

Is there any verifiable evidence outside the Bible?

So what evidence is there of the early Christian community outside the Bible? Enter Pliny the Younger.

A short excerpt from Chapter 2: The Beginnings of the Bible

The original Hebrew texts used only the 22 letters of the ancient Hebrew alphabet, representing consonantal sounds. Ancient Hebrew contained no written vowels as distinct letters. Vowel sounds were added through oral tradition and long-established usage. Thankfully, this is easier to understand than it sounds. Consider this line of consonants:Lv th Lrd yr GdIf you can figure out what the author wrote, you see how a consonant-only language can still be comprehensible. In fact, this type of “writing” is frequently used today in acronyms such as BTW, LOL, and ASAP — just look at your text messages!
